Recently, a Twitter friend of mine expressed an opinion, which was roundly criticized and in all honesty, I thought the treatment she received was rather unjust.
Now, I’ve been very vocal about the amount of discourtesy I see displayed on the internet, and how it’s affect us, so I don’t have to tell you how distasteful I found the whole affair. What she said seemed innocuous enough, but the backlash was far from it.
It seems today that crudity and ugliness are the rule these days. You can’t hardly walk down the street without hearing the F- word, or seeing it displayed somewhere. Sexuality is on full display - this past June was prime example of that. Whether you want it or not, you’re going to hear about someone’s sexual fantasies.
And the moment you try to escape, just to get a respite from the ugliness, they go after you and beat you down. They call you childish, or sheltered and try to make you feel “less than” simply because you don’t want to fill your head with crudity. Well, I happen to think that they are the childish ones. Acting like 12-year-old boys, giddy over a crude joke scrawled on a bathroom stall.
